There are opportunities for volunteer participation on an ongoing basis, as well as occasional participation in event set-up and work days

 
Food is Elementary Classroom Aid
Assist Food Educators teaching lessons from the first course offered in the Food to School Program: Food is Elementary. Introducing kids to the basics of nutritious foods and fun hands on activities like making (and eating) tabouli!

Veggie Van Support Team
The Veggie Van is a collaborative project between Local Matters and The Greener Grocer, a for-profit produce store in the Historic North Market.  Veggie Van Support Team Members will partner with the Veggie Van Staff during the summer months (June-October) in setting up our outdoor mobile 'farm market' at various locations around Columbus.

Outdoor Environments Support Team
Volunteers on this team will work together with the Local Matters Staff and a variety of community members in the installation and maintenance of Outdoor Learning Environments, where children in our local school system can play in an, interactive natural setting; urban farms, edible food gardens.

Community Events Support
Throughout the calendar year Local Matters supports our Columbus community at events that promote our local economy, ecology and environment.  From time to time we call upon our community of volunteers to commit to a single-day event to help support our neighbors and our community.

Office and Grant Support
Local Matters has an on-going need for computer support, sorting and filing.  We also have a need for grant research and writing and copy reading which can be done from your home computer.  Contact us for more specifics.
