Emily Rials

Co-site Director at Columbus Food Rescue

Emily was born in Philadelphia but grew up in Columbus, and she is delighted to be back at home after spending almost fifteen years as a student, and then a teacher, in the San Francisco Bay Area and upstate New York. Since 2020, together with co-director Susan, Emily has helped revamp and expand Columbus Food Rescue's efforts to divert excess food away from landfills and onto the plates of food-insecure families and individuals. Emily has seen over and over how food recovery can bolster and foster community among donors, recipients, and volunteers across the city, so it's a massive gift to bring Columbus Food Rescue and Local Matters together to further food advocacy and justice efforts in central Ohio.

Emily's academic background is in English literature and bookmaking, so when she's not working with food, you can probably find her reading, writing, letterpress-printing, or binding handmade books.
