local Matters Food Education Children Discussion

Food Education

Local Matters in-depth programming is where food access and food education intersect. Whether it be a kindergarten classroom or senior living facility, participants will learn to recognize healthy food choices and be exposed to food traditions from cultures around the world. Classes are hands-on and encourage learning retention thanks to recurring class schedules, including our 24-week Food Matters in Your Classroom curriculum. Our programming encourages conversations around health, nutrition, gardens and growing, whole vs processed foods, eating the rainbow, and much more! Cooking Demonstrations

Being able to try new recipes and learn tips in the kitchen is crucial to building one’s confidence in making healthier choices. Local Matters’ hands-on demonstrations focus on the essentials of cooking, covering topics like basic knife skills, meal-planning, food preservation, and one-pot meals all while prioritizing health and nutrition. Local Matters Food Donations

Food Rescue Donor or Recipient

Do you have surplus food or goods that you’d like to donate? We rescue donations of all sizes and types of food—bags of leftover bagels, pans of refrigerated prepared meals, remainder Grab ‘n’ Go sandwiches, boxes of produce, and more.

Do you operate a program or site that serves people in need of food? We work hard to ensure a good match of donated food to the recipient site—we don’t want to bring food you can’t serve, or pass along food waste. Click here to provide us with more information about your agency’s storage capacity, food needs, and outreach.
